The difference is back in the Every Day is Record Store Day shirt, everything was released on vinyl, so if it there was only a limited number of an album it was because the artist wasn’t big. It became collectible once that artist became big. There are countless rare albums from the 70s that aren’t sought after because the artists never went on to do anything great. If that was released on any other Tuesday of the year, it would take weeks before every record store sold out of it. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with creating collectors editions of pressings, it’s just dumb that if said collector’s edition came out last Tuesday, I could still probably find a place to buy it today.

I’ve never heard people complain that they tie up pressing runs. It’s not like I’m part of a Fuck RSD collective and we all have to agree on our grievances. Also, not sure where you got that I think they should tie up presses for longer. Every Day is Record Store Day shirt records is not a small number. That’s a pretty common pressing number, but because they put it on a list and tell people the exact number, it makes it seem more urgent and limited than it actually is. Pretty much-used car salesman tactics. But if I want something that’s coming out this Saturday, I need to wait in a 2+ hour line with people that buy music once or twice a year.

And if you want to say that a lot of the people in that line do go more frequently than that, I would bet that most of them would rather go in on any other day they normally go and buy the same record without having to wait in that dumb line. It’s a day for suckers. There have been multiple haters here in the past week whining about RSD tying up production for smaller labels. They argue that this is killing off small labels since 1/4 of the year is untouchable for small labels in the plants due to Every Day is Record Store Day shirt pressings. If you think it’s a dumb day, and you don’t like the limited edition releases, then why even comment on it at all?
